China Gourmet, nestled in the heart of New York City, is a hidden gem offering a delightful array of Chinese cuisine. With a focus on delivering quality dishes with a touch of authenticity, China Gourmet has managed to carve a niche for itself in the bustling food scene of the city.
As a food reviewer of Restaurant World, I recently had the pleasure of sampling some of the delectable offerings at China Gourmet. From traditional appetizers like Egg Rolls and Fried Wontons to soul-warming soups like Wonton Soup and Hot and Sour Soup, the menu at China Gourmet caters to a diverse palate.
One standout dish that captivated my taste buds was the Pickled Cabbage with Shredded Pork Noodle Soup from their Mandarin Noodle Soups section. The tangy pickled cabbage paired perfectly with the savory shredded pork, creating a harmonious blend of flavors that left me craving more.
What sets China Gourmet apart is not just the quality of their food but also their commitment to customer satisfaction. With options for delivery, takeout, and reservations, China Gourmet makes it convenient for diners to enjoy their favorite Chinese dishes in the comfort of their own home or the restaurant's cozy ambiance.
In conclusion, China Gourmet is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Chinese cuisine in New York City. With a dedication to providing exceptional food and service, China Gourmet has rightfully earned its place as a top choice for Chinese dining in the city.
I don't usually leave reviews but China gourmet popped up on my yelp and I am astonished that their rating is so low. Their rating doesn't reflect my experience with the store at all. This is my favorite Chinese place in the neighborhood!! Always tastes great and I've never had a complaint. Their prices and portion sizes are unbeatable. The combination containers are like double the size of anyone else's around here! I love you China gourmet!
People are decrying this place so needlessly. It's perfectly viable Chinese food for those on a budget, and it serves some of the best takeout tofu dishes that I've ever had. Having spent the entirety of my life in New York, I can safely declare that this is definitely several notches above a 2-star takeout joint.
This meal was worth every dollar. I would recommend it to everyone. The order was timely and well cooked. One of the best meals I had in a Chinese restaurant.
Finding a takeout spot like this in Midtown is nothing short of serendipity. They also recently underwent some renovations, so you'll walk into a beautiful establishment to accompany the friendly service. This time around, I ordered the shrimp and broccoli with white rice that came with an egg roll. The main course definitely shone through, especially for New York Chinese takeout standards. The portion sizes for both the jumbo shrimp and the broccoli were satisfying, but they would've benefited from a bit more garlic sauce. It was like a school bus of kids trying to slide down a water slide that's damp after having sat in the sun for a bit. Sure, there's moisture, but you have to do a bit of searching. The moisture was certainly present in the white rice, which was honestly a contender for the highlight of the meal. It was everything you'd expect in Asian cuisine: fluffy, composed, and great at holding the various sauces. The broccoli was strong, giving a nice crunch and extra splash of water to the bite. The shrimp had a bit of flavor, but the exterior was a bit soggy. Nonetheless, you can find the tenderness you'd expect from shrimp of that caliber. Usually the garlic sauce would counteract the minimal flavor, but I found that even the garlic sauce was a bit too subtle. The egg roll was a vegetable egg roll in my case, which I wasn't expecting but I also didn't mind that. It was a Friday during Lent, so they saved me some brownie points there. The crunch on the outside was satisfying and the inside was definitely packed and delicious, but it also came with a strong vinegar whiff. With each bite, I collected the beautiful filling and enjoyed the light crunches and tenderness, but it was like the winds of vinegar were ready to blow me over right after. Regardless, it was a solid egg roll. This spot is definitely a go to when you're looking to take a step back from spending a fortune on food in the city. We know not to expect Ramsay-esque cuisine from Chinese takeout, and perhaps that attention to proper initiative is what makes this spot that much better.
China Gourmet serves Americanized~ Chinese food and is pretty solid for the price, quantity and taste (also convenience/location for me personally). It is low frills inside but there is a little bit of seating available for dining in. I've only gotten take out and delivery before though and the employees were always polite and efficient. They serve all your usual American Chinese comfort classics like General Tso's Chicken, egg rolls, lo/chow mein, even chop suey. It's not the "most authentic" or spectacular Chinese cuisine necessarily, but it's quick, tasty, and you get a good amount of food. It also hits the spot very well when hungover.
Classic Chinese takeout! I like how it comes with an egg roll. The steamed dumplings were delicious as well, quick & easy delivery!
A local longtime staple barebones Chinese takeout restaurant for the neighborhood residents and workers. Volume is heavy so at least you know the popular items are fresh. They have lunch specials. Accept credit cards. Cashiers speak English. The only thing I've ever gotten for this place is the NYC classic of 4 chicken wings with fried rice, which is now $9 or $9.80 with tax. Its a terrific here and I think you can really judge a NYC Chinese takeout place with this order. The chicken wings are fried to perfection here - orangey/yellow, crispy as can be, meat falling off the bone, and fairly sized full chicken wings (including the wing tip). I normally get the plain fried rice and it is truly plain - just fried rice - no veggies at all. There are a couple of tables if you choose to stay and eat.
When you want Chinese takeout fried chicken, hit up China Gourmet. They deliver. Literally! I ordered through a food delivery service, and China Gourmet was listed. I normally go there in-person, so I knew they were legit. After placing my order, I got my order of fried chicken (3 orders, 4 wings each, so 12 wings, no shame) and was supremely satisfied. Wings were crispy after transit - 10-minute delivery schlep - and the wings came with hot sauce packets. The wings themselves were slightly peppery. Yum! I might've had a heart attack afterwards too. Double yum!
